Chess in Concert was coming to Amsterdam on Monday 29 October 1984. As soon as I heared that, I ordered tickets for this very special night. And then finally it was Monday October 29.
My ABBA-friend Emyl and I went to Amsterdam with two things in our minds. One was attending the Chess in Concert performance in the famous Amsterdam Concertgebouw. And Two was getting the ABBA men's autographs.
We expected that things wouldn't go as easy as three months before when we met Frida. But we had absolutely no idea that so many fans would spend the day waiting at the stage door.
Anyway: after waiting for many dull hours, finally the Chess knights arrived. I managed to get autographs from Björn and Benny, but not from Tim Rice. Things got a little hectic, because all those many ABBA fanatics like me wanted pictures and autographs and Björn and Benny didn't have much time.
I was very lucky, because they both signed ABBA - The Album and Chess.
Unfortunately taking pictures proved to be much more difficult. We took some shots, but they turned out to be far from perfect. Well, you can't always get what you want ...
What's more to say? Oh yes, the concert. In two words: pure magic.
